Characterizing cycle structure in complex networks

چکیده
Abstract A cycle is the simplest structure that brings redundant paths in network connectivity and feedback effects dynamics. An in-depth understanding of which cycles are important what role they play on dynamics, however, still lacking. In this paper, we define number matrix, a matrix enclosing information about network, ratio, an index quantifies node importance. Experiments real networks suggest ratio contains rich addition to well-known benchmark indices. For example, rankings by largely different from degree, H-index, coreness, very similar Numerical experiments identifying vital nodes for synchronization maximizing early reach spreading show performs overall better than other benchmarks. Finally, highlight significant difference between distribution shorter model networks. We believe our analyses may yield insights, metrics, models, algorithms science.

Characterizing the Community Structure of Complex Networks
BACKGROUND Community structure is one of the key properties of complex networks and plays a crucial role in their topology and function. While an impressive amount of work has been done on the issue of community detection, very little attention has been so far devoted to the investigation of communities in real networks. METHODOLOGY/PRINCIPAL FINDINGS We present a systematic empirical analysi...
متن کاملCharacterizing Motifs in Weighted Complex Networks
The local structure of unweighted complex networks can be characterized by the occurrence frequencies of subgraphs in the network. Frequently occurring subgraphs, motifs, have been related to the functionality of many natural and man-made networks. Here, we generalize this approach for weighted networks, presenting two novel measures: the intensity of a subgraph, defined as the geometric mean o...
متن کاملCharacterizing the Robustness of Complex Networks
With increasingly ambitious initiatives such as GENI and FIND that seek to design future internets, it becomes imperative to define the characteristics of robust topologies, and build future networks optimized for robustness. This paper investigates the characteristics of network topologies that maintain a high level of throughput in spite of multiple attacks. To this end, we select network top...
متن کاملCharacterizing the Structure of Affliation Networks
Our society contains all types of organizations, such as companies, research groups and hobby clubs. Affiliation networks, as a large and important portion of social networks, consist of individuals and their affiliation relations: Two individuals are connected by a link if they belong to the same organization(s). Affiliation networks naturally contain many fully connected cliques, since the no...
متن کاملCharacterizing the structure of small-world networks.
We give exact relations for small-world networks (SWN's) which are independent of the "degree distribution," i.e., the distribution of nearest-neighbor connections. For the original SWN model, we illustrate how these exact relations can be used to obtain approximations for the corresponding basic probability distribution. In the limit of large system sizes and small disorder, we use numerical s...
